How to Choose an Event Tent

Size Matters More Than You Think

10x10 ft (100 sq ft): 8-10 standing guests, or one 6ft table + chairs
10x20 ft (200 sq ft): 15-20 guests, two tables, or small buffet setup
10x30 ft (300 sq ft): 25-30 guests, banquet seating for 20, or dance floor
20x20 ft (400 sq ft): Full reception, multiple tables, DJ setup

The rule: Take your expected headcount, assume 10-15 sq ft per person for standing room with tables. For seated dinners, plan 20+ sq ft per guest.

### Frame Materials

Steel frames:

Heavy but stable
- Affordable
- Can rust over time
- Best for occasional use

Aluminum frames:
- Lighter weight
- Corrosion resistant
- Commercial durability
- Higher price point

### Wind Ratings Are Real

That "rated for 35mph winds" isn't marketing—it's the difference between a party tent and a liability. Always:
- Stake down on grass (included stakes usually inadequate—buy heavy-duty)
- Use weight bags on concrete/pavement (25+ lbs per leg minimum)
- Take down if wind advisory issued

### Sidewalls: Yes or No?

Get sidewalls if:
- Weather might turn
- Privacy needed
- Evening events (blocks wind/bugs)
- Sun tracking across venue

Skip sidewalls if:
- Purely for shade
- Hot weather only
- Good airflow essential
- Cost-conscious setup
